AI in the News: Associate Member Talks AMCs with Denver News Station

JoAnn Apostol, Associate member, was featured Oct. 6 on KWGN-2 (CW) Denver where she discussed the influence that appraisal management companies are having on the industry.

“New appraisal management companies have been formed by the feds, which have been set up to avoid any conflicts of interest between mortgage brokers and appraisers,” Apostol said. “We no longer deal directly with banks or brokers, only with the middle man of sorts, which means we have to share fees with the AMCs, and that is driving people out of the business.”

The Norfolk, Va.-based Virginian-Pilot reported Oct. 6 on the Appraisal Institute’s Sept. 13 “Opinions of Value” blog on the rising number of certified appraisers; their report also noted the declining number of appraisers overall.

These stories are among the recent media coverage included in the “AI in the News” feature on the members-only section of the Appraisal Institute website.
