Completion may represent that they have completed the program’s curriculum and passed the examinations. However, recipients of this certificate may not represent themselves as certified in Appraising Historic Preservation Easements, as holding a certification in historic preservation easements, or as having a specialization, competency, or expertise based solely on the successful completion of the program. Q. What does the program cover?
A. This course provides intensive training on the valuation of historic preservation easements. The emphasis is on appraising the value of preservation easements donated as charitable gifts under the Internal Revenue Code. The methods and techniques explained are also relevant to the appraisal of preservation easements granted in order to obtain either state or local income tax or property tax deductions/credits.
Q. Who developed the program?
A. The program was developed by the Appraisal Institute.
Q. How long is the program?
A. The program is 3 days long and includes an exam.
Q. I am not an Appraisal Institute designated member. May I still take the program?
A. Yes. However, you will not be placed on the Certificate Registry. Only designated and associate members are placed on the Registry. You will earn continuing education hours and if you pass the exam, receive a Certificate of Completion.
Q. As a designated member, what happens when I take the course and pass the exam?
A. You will receive an Appraising Historic Preservation Easements Certificate of Completion, and you will be placed on the Certificate Registry.
Q. Is this program approved for qualifying education (QE) credit?
A. No. Because the content in the program is advanced, it is only approved for continuing education (CE) credit.
