Trainee Associate Membership Offers Resources for Individuals Entering the Real Estate Valuation Profession

Trainee Associate members enjoy access to educational and reference programs and resources that will help them advance in their appraisal careers. All Trainee Associate members receive member discounts on the Appraisal Institute's extensive curriculum of licensing and certification education, which was designed to meet the Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) minimum education criteria requirements. Additionally, as a Trainee Associate member, you'll have access to the Associate Member Service Center, where you will receive ongoing guidance in your path to state licensure, certification, and beyond.

Trainee Associate members also enjoy affiliation with a local chapter, where they can learn and network with seasoned professionals at chapter and national meetings. Plus, Trainee Associate members may also search for jobs and post a resume at the Career Center. Read more about the many benefits of Associate Membership in the Appraisal Institute.

Trainee Associate Membership is open to individuals who hold an appraiser trainee license or equivalent from a governmental regulatory agency. Individuals working towards attaining a trainee license or equivalent also can qualify for this membership category, but must attain an appraiser trainee license or equivalent from a governmental regulatory agency within 2 years of admission to Trainee Associate Membership.

To set themselves apart in the marketplace, all Associate members have a Standards of Professional Practice (SPP) requirement for membership. Within each cycle, the Associate member must meet both components of the SPP requirement:
  1. USPAP - the Associate Member must provide proof of passing the 15-Hour National Uniform Standards of Professional Practice (USPAP) course/exam within the first year of membership or within the 4 years prior to membership. If the Associate Member has previously received credit for the 15-Hour USPAP, the 7-Hour USPAP may be taken instead. To receive credit for USPAP courses taken from a provider other than the Appraisal Institute, submit Course Completion Verification forms to the Associate Member Service Center.

  2. Business Practices and Ethics - The Associate Member must take and pass the Appraisal Institute's Business Practices and Ethics course (available online and in the classroom).
National dues for Trainee Associate members are $95 per year. Dues are prorated for members joining between January 1 and October 31. Members joining after October 31 are charged full dues for the upcoming year. To see a calculation of prorated national and local chapter dues, please refer to the Trainee Associate Membership Application.

Trainee Associate membership gives you the resources you need to start your appraisal career on the right foot.
