Your First Steps into a Promising Career
Starting your career as a Trainee Appraiser is your gateway into the real estate appraisal industry. Many states require that you first become a Trainee Appraiser (also known as an Apprentice Appraiser or a Registered Appraiser). Learn what it takes to get your Trainee License and begin your journey below.
Step 1: Complete Your Education Requirements
Fulfill 75 hours* of essential qualifying education to build your appraisal knowlege:
- Basic Appraisal Principles (30 Hours)
- Basic Appraisal Procedures (30 Hours)
- 15-Hour National USPAP Course (15 Hours)
* Note: Additional state-specific courses, such as Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser Course, may be required. Please verify with your state for detailed criteria.
Step 2: Select Your Supervisor:
Select a qualified supervisory appraiser who has completed the necessary Supervisory Appraiser Trainee Course to guide your training.
Step 3: Apply for Your Trainee License
With a supervisor selected, submit your application for an appraisal trainee license to your state. This application will include necessary fees, fingerprints, and background check information.
Step 4: Gather Work Experience
Begin accumulating practical experience under the guidance of your supervisor. Record all appraisal activities diligently, as these will be crucial when you apply for advanced licensure levels.
