AI Critical of IRS' Lack of Due Process

The Appraisal Institute was joined by the American Society of Appraisers, National Association of Appraisers, the American Society of Farm Manager and Rural Appraisers, National Society of Real Estate Appraisers and MBREA in a letter to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (“FHFA”) expressing strong concerns regarding their recent decision to expand eligibility for appraisal waivers on purchase loans.

The undersigned professional appraisal organizations appreciate the agencies’ collective efforts to develop guidance around Reconsiderations of Value (ROVs) to provide financial institutions, consumers, and appraisers with a more transparent and consistent process.

The Appraisal Institute congratulates Scott Turner for his confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, and asks for clarity regarding the prolonged investigations of appraisers for alleged fair housing violations. 

All Federal agencies that provide Federal financial assistance are required by February 7, 2025 to complete this spreadsheet and submit it to OMB.
